Sew, He Popped a Cop at Chesme Church
Sew, He Popped a Cop at Chesme Church is a graphite drawing, 41" x 40", based on a story I read in a Toronto newspaper article. It concerned gangs of Russian youth who were killing older people for their vintage Singer sewing machines. According to urban legend, there was a platinum plate located somewhere in the machine that could be sold on the black market. Singer was one of the first western companies to have had a presence in the Soviet Union, and the machine was a popular acquisition for families.
Because I have been to Russia on a couple of occasions, and had reference material available, the story struck me is interesting and incongruous and I thought it could make for an interesting image.
